The right leash depends on the situation. A standard 1.2–1.8 metre flat leash is the workhorse of everyday walking — it keeps your dog at a safe, controllable distance and is easy to handle. Longer training leads of 5–10 metres allow dogs to practise recall while remaining on a line. Retractable leads give dogs more freedom to explore — but should never be used near traffic, as the thin cord provides minimal control in sudden situations.
Our leash range is available in nylon, leather, and reflective materials, in a range of widths to suit different dog sizes. Heavy-duty clips and stitched attachment points are markers of quality worth checking before purchase.
Bungee leashes with stretch sections are worth considering for dogs who lunge suddenly — the elastic absorbs the impact shock to your shoulder rather than transmitting it directly.
